Le 21 mars 1964, le général de Gaulle en visite en Cayenne, fait une annonce à la foule : « Nous avons une grande œuvre à faire en Guyane ». C’est le Centre spatial guyanais. La promesse sera tenue mais pourquoi Kourou, pourquoi la Guyane ? Au-delà d’un choix géographique cohérent avec la nécessité de l’industrie spatiale, ce film raconte aussi le choix du général de Gaulle dans un double contexte de guerre froide côté international et de crise algérienne côté français.
